Helvetica

The film Helvetica brought about a whole new meaning for the term "visual rhetoric." I have never thought to rhetorically look at something through the meaning of the typeface, and to be even more specific, the font Helvetica. Helvetica font is used everywhere and its something I never noticed before. Through watching the movie it was interesting to see how people react to specific words that use specific fonts.

I agree with Wim Crouwel when he states that "the meaning is in the content of the text and not in the typeface." The typeface such as Helvetica helps you understand the meaning that much faster. To be honest I've never really played around with my fonts because I'm usually just doing homework assignments and I've always used Times New Roman because that's what we're required. What if I used a different font? Would my professors not grade my assignments because of the specific font I decided to use?

My main point here is that Helvetica is simple. Using this font makes things become clearer. It makes the audience connect with the message that the words are trying to send.
